You all know Reels, Right?
Instagram Reels are a feature within the Instagram app that allows users to create and share short-form videos. It was introduced by Instagram as a response to the popularity of TikTok, a social media platform known for its short videos. And nowadays its a crucial part of people’s life to see something entertaining.
Some features that we all know, Like
-
Reels are typically 15 to 30 seconds long and can include various creative elements like music, filters, text, stickers, and special effects.
-
Users can record original videos directly in the Instagram app or upload pre-recorded videos from their device's gallery.
-
Instagram Reels provide a range of editing tools, including the ability to adjust video speed, trim clips, and align multiple video segments.
-
Users can also choose from a vast library of audio clips and songs to add to their Reels.
-
Once created, Reels can be shared on the user's Instagram Feed, Explore page, and the dedicated Reels tab on their profile.
-
Additionally, Instagram users can discover Reels created by others on the Explore page, which showcases popular and trending content from accounts they may not follow.
So, this is how the reels looks and you all know that. We can create, watch and share the reels but what most of the people do is WATCHING the reels.
Instagram Reels

Why Redesign?
Well, this is not a redesign but enhancing the experience by adding some simple features.
Lets start with First User Scenario.
You did your daily work and got a little spare time, you decided to spend it on Instagram.
You opened the app and did all that thing which any normal person would do, like checking stories and posts of friends, this generally takes around 5 min.
Then you clicked on reels intentionally, if not then Instagram have ways to lead you to any of the reels and your scrolling journey starts there.
People spends hours watching the reels.
Then you came across a reel which is sharing any information about history, facts or anything, but in that reel there are audio captions which are placed below in the frame that you want to read but you can’t because of the username, reel description, people who have liked the reel, tagged account and different options. These are the barrier to your caption inside the reel.
Lets dive deep in the problems
-
Captions overlayed by multiple info

You cannot read the audio captions like here in these reels. because of all these info.
-
Templates covered by the writeup.

In certain templates like these you can’t see the last or lower frame because of all this writeup.
-
Full shots covered by info
These shots are so beautiful and you don't want any writeup here to ruin your view, you would want to enjoy this in full view.

-
Some features which add up in taking space

Features like use template and tagged person are the extra feature which covers more space on screen
Problem 2
let’s say you are a creator and you want to make a new reel with a cinematic shot of nature, So what would you do?
You have all your videos and song ready with you.
Then you obviously want to see some other reels of cinematic shots to get some inspiration for your video.
Then you would search different accounts to find that type of reels.
Its a little difficult and time consuming to go back again and again and search for the reels in different accounts.
Similarly let’s say you are a watcher and at a point you want to see reels according to your genre.
You will open the reels and scroll them until you get your favorite type of reel. Now lets say if you want to see the same type of reels further, THEN?
What if you only want to see painting videos? then either you have to see reels of same account or search in different account.
Instagram does have a algorithm based on your pattern of seeing the reels. It usually suggest those type of reels that you mostly watch. But what if i want to see only paintings and nothing more?
How it affects
-
For this reason the people place there caption either in the center or in top which also some how disturbs the whole layout of the video.
-
New people who creates a first reel they dont know where to put the caption in the reel, so like any other normal person they place it below.
-
Some reels made with 3 templates cannot be viewed fullly.
-
You have to look for similar reels by searching in every account.
My solution for this
By adding ‘Hide Icon’ above like and comment button for hiding the whole write up. If someone want to enjoy the reel without seeing too much of the information they can simply tap that hide button, that's it.
And one ‘View Similar’ button at the top to see similar content.
Adding Features

This is the ‘Hide Icon’ for the description and 'View Similar" button
This is how it looks on the reel.

After tapping the icon it will hide all other thing and the hide button will go down with a little transparency to turn it back ON.
Now you have your whole screen to enjoy the fullest of it.
